  1. Black and White Shelf Paper

April 4th, 2010 by Eric · Filed Under: Product

    Hi Everyone,

    Happy Easter.

We have had a lot of requests lately for black shelf paper — and interestingly (to me anyway) — white shelf paper.

My thought on these basics is that this isn’t where our value lies.  There are many sources for basic black and white shelf paper that most of us could buy within a few minutes drive from our homes.  So I’m not sure either of these make sense for us to carry regularly, but this brings up two ideas:

    1. If you prefer our materials over what you can find at your local hardware store, we will happily produce black or white shelf paper for you.  Just please drop us a email and let us know your needs.

    2. We have added some black and white geometric designs to our pattern choices which can make a bold statement depending on your environment.

Black and white can add some drama to the right situation, and I particularly like the concentric circles one.  If there are particular ideas you’d like to see, give us the chance to help you out.

As always, if we can offer ideas, solutions, suggestions or help of any kind, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

  2. New Shelf Paper Patterns

March 30th, 2010 by Eric · Filed Under: Product

We have been working hard on getting some new patterns posted on ChicShelfPaper.com.

I was speaking with Claudia in NYC yesterday and she presciently reminded me why Francie and I started this company.  Claudia said that she didn’t have a lot of choice when it came to shelf paper and drawer liners, and that the choices on the market were not to her taste.  Like Kittrich [Con-Tact and Magic Cover brand manufacturer] expects her to put some terrible wood grain pattern that has been around for ever in her urban washroom?  Really?

I think we helped her out.

So it’s nice to get back to the root of what we do:  Offer customers a distinct choice when it comes to covering shelves and drawers.  We hope you find what you’re looking for not only in terms of design, but in high quality material choices too.

What ever your taste, we aim to provide designs that appeal to you, from French Country to a modern stainless steel type look, from simple geometrics to artistic expressions; and the vast majority of our choices are exclusive to ChicShelfPaper — you won’t find them anywhere else.

In the last day we have posted a number of new patterns, some of the geometrics I really like such as:

Dove Gray Greek Spiral Forest Green Hexagon Highway Peacock Blue Interlocking Links

All of our new patterns will be added to our Recently Added product category for ease of search.

We will be adding new patterns regularly, so check back often.  Next up — due to persistent customer demand — will be some children’s room and nursery patterns.

I hope you find something that tickles your fancy.  If not, please let us know how we can improve your shelf paper and drawer liner shopping experience.

  3. Adhesive qualities

March 26th, 2010 by Eric · Filed Under: Product

I saw Francie’s post on non-adhesive options, and I wanted to add some commentary about our philosophy.

First, for adhesive options for shelf paper and drawer liners, we exclusively use what is called “repositionable” adhesive.  The idea here is two-fold:  First, it allows you to adjust the position — hence the repositionable name! — during installation without damage to the material.  So if you are installing, and don’t get it exactly in the right position, there is little drama to lifting it up and re-sticking in the correct place.

The second idea behind this concept is the one that homeowners have come to dread about Contact Paper:  it becomes one with your shelf or drawer surfaces and is impossible to remove.  ChicShelfPaper.coms’s materials with repositionable adhesive are designed to be removed easily — even after years of use.

This solution addresses concerns about damage to your cabinets, and is an awesome, well engineered choice.  We’ve been using repositionable adhesive in our dish cupboard since well before we launched ChicShelfPaper and really enjoy its performance.

Second, as Francie mentioned, we do have products without adhesive.  Our matte paper and canvas products are offered without adhesive, and they really work nicely by just laying them a drawer bottom.  The sides of the drawer hold it in place assuming it is cut to proper size.

Third, if you really like the canvas or paper finishes, we can also ADD a repositionable  adhesive option to those materials too.  I would recommend this if you choose the paper or canvas for a shelf or cubby or some surface that may allow the covering to slide around.   An optional edge or full-backed adhesive will keep that paper in place.

Finally, though it’s not on the website, we do offer a strong adhesive alternative too.  Yesterday I spoke with Krisi from Blooming Prairie, MN who wanted to wrap the front edge of her kitchen cupboard shelves.  She needed a durable laminated product, but because the shelves have square edges, the repositionable adhesive may pull away over time.

The answer is we will make a custom product for Krisi using a stronger adhesive backing.  Matte paper laminated with vinyl on the top surface and a very strong two sided adhesive on the bottom surface.   She gets the print of her choice with a durable laminated covering, and a strong adhesive backing in a situation where she required a little more strength than the repositionable adhesive provided.  We were delighted we could help!

Bottom line:  What ever your needs, give us a chance to come up with a solution.

  4. We Want To Be In Your Drawers!

March 26th, 2010 by Francie · Filed Under: Product

Many customers are searching for non-adhesive shelf liners. Yup, we got ‘em.

Just order your favorite Chic Shelf Paper pattern in Heavy Matte Paper or Satin Canvas—both are available withoutadhesive.  The material descriptions are here.

Non-adhesive liners are great for drawers, or any storage areas that aren’t going to get a lot of wear and tear. Of course, a great fit will keep non-adhesive shelf paper or drawer liner in place too so consider Chic Shelf Paper’s cut-to-size service. Just input your project’s measurements when ordering.

What I love about lining your drawers with beautiful paper or fabric is every time you open the drawer, you can enjoy a nice experience. I’ve done that with my make-up drawer. It had a plywood-type interior so in desperation, I put down a white linen towel (but of course that wasn’t easy to keep clean.)

Now, it sports Ribbons of Joy in Lavender to match the amethyst marble in our bathroom, and every time I open the drawer, it makes me happy.

(As a side benefit, it has also inspired me to keep my make-up drawer really tidy!)
