Getting Ready for Guests

Let’s be honest: Hosting guests is a bit of work. Once you’ve planned and shopped for meals and cleaned the house, you’re already tired. The last leg of getting ready is tidying the guest room, and providing the little touches that make guests feel very welcome. Instead of winging it, I’ve created a list that I can reference again and again. I hope it’s helpful!

  • Bottled water.
  • Pain relievers.
  • Snacks — something sweet, salty, and healthy (if possible.) Consider hard candy, mixed nuts, and an apple.
  • Extra blankets and pillows.
  • Selection of reading materials.
  • One of the free guides to the area that gets published every month or a book about your area that lists attractions such as museums.
  • A note about your Wifi network and password.
  • Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and a basket of extras like a toothbrush, toothpaste, bandages, and lotion.
  • Luggage rack.
  • A small desk or cleared tabletop.
  • Night lights that lead the way to the closest bathroom.
  • Extra hangers.
  • Alarm clock.
  • Power strip outlet for laptops, phones, e-readers, etc.
  • A unisex bathrobe.
  • A garbage can.
  • Hair dryer.
  • Makeup mirror or a  magnifying hand mirror.
  • Washcloths or makeup remover disposable cloths.
  • An umbrella.
  • A print-out of the weather forecast for a few days.
  • A small vase of fresh flowers or a fragrant candle.
  • Tissues.
  • An small steamer or iron.
  • Directions to your local Target or Walmart for forgotten items and extras.

Do you have any tips to add?
